"You might be our only chance. I don't think the Scion can do this alone. You might be the final part of the equation. The tipping point."
"The tipping point of what?"
"This war. You can end it."
In Nightshade, we were introduced to Calla and her current and potential pack mates. We found out about the Witches' War - a power struggle between the Keepers and Searchers. We were introduced to Calla's world where she is a Guardian, entrusted to protect sacred objects. Her destiny plotted out by Keepers who dictated many aspects of a Guardian's life. As the date of Calla's and Ren's union approached, Calla finally started seeing the Keepers as they truly were. Ugly secrets were revealed that were not very pleasant. When the day of the union came, they wanted her to kill a person she cared about, Shay. She couldn't do it and while attempting to save him the two were captured by the Searchers.
In Wolfsbane, Calla wakes up to find she is being held captive by the Searchers. She is asked to trust them. To persuade her pack to switch sides. The incentive being a better life. One where their destiny would be their own and not dictated to them. Boiled down to it's basic element they were being offered freedom.
Lies will be uncovered. Trust will be broken. Secrets will be revealed and Calla will discover:
"it wasn't about love or Shay or the Searchers now. It was about sacrifice and redemption, loss that could have new meaning."
I loved this sequel. While the first book left me with many questions, this book answered a lot of them. We find out who was punished for Calla's actions and how. We find out what the sacred objects truly are, and how they're used. We learn more about Shay's family and his destiny. There are twists I didn't see coming, and a cliffhanger ending that had me wondering if Calla truly knew what she was doing or was just very naive. The only thing I disliked is that Bloodrose doesn't come out for several more months. *sniff* I want more! lol If you liked 'Nightshade' then you really need to read this book. I gave this one 5 out of 5 roses.
Order of series:
1. Nightshade
2. Wolfsbane
3. Bloodrose - coming February 21, 2012 - To read an excerpt Click Here
