- Notes: I read the ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of this book.
Susanna Burney is a beautiful woman hired by members of the Ton to break up unsuitable matches. Her success rate is impressive. Her current target is Fitzwilliam (Fitz) Alton, only son and heir to the Duke and Duchess of Alton. She is to break up the relationship between him and Francesca Devlin (Chessie). The only thing standing in her way and success is her husband, James (Dev). Fortunately for her, he doesn't know that they're still married. Additionally, he's on a treasure hunting mission of his own in the form of Emma, a wealthy heiress. Did I mention that Chessie just happens to be James' sister? Can you say complicated?
This was a delightfully original and fun story that had me grinning. Once I picked the book up, I was unable to put it down until I was finished. The love/hate relationship between Susanna and Dev was explosive and fun. Could definitely feel the heat coming off the pages. The characters were likeable with the exception of one, and there was a twist that caught me off guard. Love it when a book can do that. It had just the right mixture of fun and passion, with a tad bit of darkness thrown in. This is the first book I've read by Cornick, but it will definitely not be my last. *sigh* I love it when I find a new author to add to my ever growing list of authors whose books I must read. I gave this one 5 out of 5 roses.
