Steven Creed was in a serious relationship and when his best friend died leaving his son orphaned, he stepped up the the plate and adopted him. His girlfriend, however, didn't like the package deal. When he proposed she said it was either the child or her. He picked Matt.
Melissa O'Ballivan was in a serious relationship three years ago. She was engaged and, for one reason or another, the wedding kept getting postponed. Perhaps it was cold feet or nerves, but when Dan told her they needed to get married or it was over she didn't think he was serious. She figured they'd make up and eventually get married. That scenario didn't happen and her heart was broken when shortly thereafter he started dating someone else whom he later married. She's shied away from relationships since then.
When Steven moved with Matt to Stone Creek he wanted to start fresh and leave painful memories behind. When he and Melissa meet and things start moving quicker than either imagined, he knows he made the right decision to move. A very fun read.
I loved the characters Miller created. They were both likable and realistic. The story seemed a little slow at first, but picked up about midway through. I liked the little bits of humor Miller intertwined into the story that had me grinning. I thought the conversations the main characters had to try to get to know each other was a nice touch. It reminded me of conversations I'd had with people I dated when I was younger. I did feel the falling in love part happened a little too fast. The amount of dates to a declaration of love seemed a bit quick considering the two kept their distance from each other for a good portion of that time period. Having said that though, I have known couples who have said they fell in love at first sight. One example would be my grandparents. They were married for over 50 years. Torn between giving this one a 3 or 4 star rating I finally decided to give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
