"I dream that you come into my room. And then I hurt you. I cut you or strangle or stab you, and you die, looking up at me with those green eyes of yours while your life bleeds away between my hands."
Jace and Clary are a couple, but the two are faced with a new problem - Jace is having dreams of hurting and killing Clary. He is afraid he'll be compelled to hurt or kill her even though he loves her. The two will need to find out what is happening and here's a hint - it has to do with Jace coming back to life in City of Glass.
Meanwhile, Simon is still coming to grips with the curse that is associated with the Mark of Cain and is still trying to figure out what the consequences are. While the symbol is a curse, at times it can act as a blessing as those who wish to do him harm are struck down. Lately, that is happening way to frequently. Someone is out to get Simon and he has no clue who or why.
Simon is also trying to deal with being a vampire. The thought of drinking the blood of a human is something he is trying to avoid, but the need is strong. He also needs to let his mother know what happened to him. He's afraid she won't accept him.
Magnus and Alec are still going strong, but Alec will need to come to grips with the fact that Magnus has been around and his list of relationships is extensive. If Alec can't deal with the fact Magnus had a love life hundreds of years prior to his involvement, there may be no future between them. For those of you who've read Clockwork Angel there are some big time hints that something may have happened between Will and Magnus.Cassandra is such a tease!
I gave this one 4 out of 5 stars. While I really like the book the ending left me wondering because I thought (trying not to give away any spoilers) a certain someone's hold on another had been broken when a certain symbol had been altered. If so, the ending seemed to contradict that, so I'm a bit confused. The new villain she picked was a nice addition. I like how Clare likes to include biblical twists in her books. I thoroughly enjoy when she does that. Also, be prepared there is a major cliffhanger at the end of this one.
Thoughts on upcoming books:
Wondering if the title City of Lost Souls is a hint to going after a certain individual, who will remain nameless to avoid spoilers, in City of Fallen Angels?
Additional treats - a deleted story.
Jocelyn's Story
Cassandra wrote a story of Jocelyn's early life. It was originally written as part of City of Glass, but was too long and explained too much. Not everything in it will agree with what is in past and future books, but it's fun to see how Cassandra thinks and how things can change while she writes.
