- Notes: Does have some foul language which some may find offensive, but sometimes it just fits with the characters and this is one of those cases.
This book takes place years after the first two League books and some of the couples in those books now have grown children. Devyn Kell (Dev) is the son of Syn and Shahara of book 2. He started his career being a doctor for the League, but a difference in opinion over the fate of a little boy landed him in a violent altercation which led to his leaving the League. While the charges were dropped due to Dev's family connections the commanding officer, Merjack, whom Dev humiliated, still resents him and will stop at nothing to see him brought up on charges - real or fabricated.
Alix is a slave. After her father's death, she, her mother, and sister were to be auctioned off to repay the debt her father accumulated. Merjack steps in and forces her to spy on Dev. Why? Because she looks like Dev's Ex. She's to find evidence that can land Dev in jail and. if none can be found. to plant some. If she fails her mother and sister will be raped and/or killed. Problem is she finds Dev to be nothing like Merjack described - "the Devil himself". In fact, he's the first male to treat her like a person of worth. If he'd been what she'd expected her task would have been so much easier.
Very fun read. I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars.
